This list was created by John Tate (retired teacher/basketball coach) for wyoming-basketball.com and is based on statistics, individual awards, and team accomplishments. Each player was the key cog in her team’s success. There is no individual number ranking. Players are grouped by teams and listed alphabetically in each team. The 1st and 2nd teams are basically interchangeable. You could make an argument for any one of them to be top 5. Each one was dominant. The third team is loaded as well. For that matter, every player listed was a great player in her own right. That’s why she’s in the Top 25. There are undoubtedly some players who have been left off the list that you may feel strongly belong there, and maybe they do; however, this list is strictly one person’s opinion. It was not easy making the final cuts. Create your own list. Who’s in your all-time Top 25? Regardless, I hope you enjoy learning about some of the best to ever play basketball in the state of Wyoming.

NOTE: All individual numbers are career totals unless stated otherwise. All-time ranking in top five in individual categories is specifically listed. Most statistics are from wyoming-basketball.com, but other statistics are from newspapers and coaches. College and professional careers are listed to show greater perspective on talent, but the emphasis is on the individual’s high school career through the all-star games. Award recognition other than all-state (see wyoming-basketball.com) has been gathered from sports articles in newspapers and from sports websites. Gatorade POY started in 1985. Miss Wyoming Basketball started in 1997. Max Preps award started in 2006. South Dakota All-Star Series began in 1993 and the Montana All-Star Series began in 1997. Years are listed using the end of the state tournament for that year even though the actual season started in November of the previous year. For example: ’21 rather than ’20-’21. The three-point shot did not come into being until 1986.

  1. A well thought out list… very difficult to compare players small v. big schools. Owens and some of the NC girls, Jenny Walter At CC, Zehr and Cannon sisters at GR, Ballekat Sheridan, a couple of Coach Moser’s TR girls….however, it’s obvious you DID put a great deal of effort and thought into this. Thank you for recognizing the efforts of these athletes.

    1. Thank you, Ross. Your opinion means a lot. Your teams were terrific. Certainly, there are other players who could be in the Top 25, but slipped through the cracks. This isn’t a perfect list. Some players were on more-balanced teams which watered down their stats or some schools have had very limited stats or no stats available to this web site, so you can miss a player.

      John Tate
  2. Not sure Linda Jackson or Traci Barham from Glenrock is not on this list. Linda was all conference all state all four years of high school and made the North versus South team in Laramie. Also Traci was all conference and Allstate all 4 years as well. Linda played with many listed on your team as well as Traci.

    Traci
  3. The dates for Diana Soundingsides seem wrong as she played against my daughter who would have played from 2006 to 2009. Sadly she passed away far too young! Good job Mr. Tate!
